When I found out I was lactose intolerant the main question I got asked was ‘How will you give up chocolate?!’ I will often find myself craving something chocolatey and if you’re like me, there is literally no way to curb the craving without chocolate. So, of course I thought this was going to be a challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I do love dark chocolate, but mostly the cravings are for something totally sweet and creamy.
I have since discovered so many brands out there who make dairy free chocolate and it tastes amazing! My favourite probably being Loving Earth. Their blocks are just so creamy and delicious, the range of flavours is insane and I can pick them up from my local zero waste store without any packaging for an extra bonus.
My craving often calls for chocolate ice-cream and for this reason I started making chocolate smoothie bowls. I fully understand that smoothies are supposed to be healthy, packed full of goodness but for all intents and purposes this is not on of those times. This smoothie bowl is purely for chocolate. I absolutely love to make this after a big weekend workout when I find myself wanting something sweet. Its also a really good recipe to half and reduce the amount of milk you use to make it a thicker nice cream texture for movie nights!
- 1 Banana (frozen)
- 1 scoop Plant-Based Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1 Tbsp Cacao Powder
- 1 Tbsp Flaxseed
- 200ml Chocolate Soy Milk
- Toppings of your choice (I use toasted coconut flakes, peanut butter and chia seeds)
- Add all ingredients to blender and pulse until combined.
- Pour into a bowl and top with your choice of toppings.
